Upcoming Update Fees

As you all already know, we are going to have to keep up with the costs that updates and compilation comes with. At the Beta release of UBot Studio 4, the price for updates for all versions will be $5 a month. If you are still within the free upgrade period, then you get the upgrade to UBot 4 for free. Before June 1st 2011, the free update period was for 12 months. After June 1st 2011, the free update period is now 3 months. Since the initial release of UBot Studio 4 will be in Beta, we highly recommend keeping up with the update subscription.
If you have any questions about the process, let us know at support.ubostudio.com
Thank you and happy botting!

How to Earn the Dev License

Late last year, we divided UBot Studio into 3 versions, representing 3 levels of expertise, simplicity, and general purpose. For those who enjoy a simpler, less cluttered command set, we released UBot Studio Standard. For those who need a little more power, we released Pro. Some people, in addition to needing more power, wanted special tools for selling the bots they  created, and for them we made the Dev license.

What became clear after a short amount of time is that the Dev license had greater implications than we first realized and that it was easy for people to take advantage of its power. It’s an unfortunate fact of this industry that a few unsavory souls can ruin things for the trustworthy majority.

We were content to permanently discontinue the Dev license, but to our surprise, a lot of people came forward with compelling cases of need for it. Clearly this was an issue that needed resolving. So after a few weeks of talking, we finally came up with a solution.

We will be selling the Dev license again, but if you’re interested in buying it, you’ll first have to prove your integrity and knowledge of UBot Studio to us and to our current Dev community. To do this, you will need to be a Standard or Pro license holder for at least 30 days, and you will need to submit one bot to the bot store for sale. Said bot must pass our approval process. You will receive continued royalties on sales of any and all bots you submit to the store.

Additionally, we’re going to be start a Certified Developer Program. Benefits to being a member include a special forum status, including a badge designating your status, and also a mention on a page where we will list Certified Developers. This designation may hold a lot of sway with people trying to decide on who to choose to hire for a project, and may help with the sale of UBot created software. Requirements will be the upload of a bot to the bot store, or update of an existing bot, every 2 months, and continued good standing on our forum.

If you’re interested in purchasing the Dev license or becoming a Certified Developer, please put in a request with support and we will give you more information.

UBot Studio Version 4 is in Development!

Anyone who’s been with us from the beginning understands that the current version of UBot Studio (3.5119) is totally different from the original UBot Studio 3.0. Since our first release, we’ve made several redesigns to the interface, making it increasingly easy to create bots, we’ve added countless commands, and we’ve integrated a lot of ideas from our community. Well, sometimes changes have to take place that are just so massively large, that we have no choice but to release it as a new version, with a new installer, and a new core system.

I wish I could list out all of the great new technologies going into UBot Studio 4, but at this point these have to remain top secret. What I can say is that any limitation v3 might have had will be gone in v4. The technology is so much lighter, faster, and more powerful, you’ll find yourself mastering the internet in ways you never thought possible.

We pride ourselves on UBot Studio’s usability and ease of learning, but I can tell you in no uncertain terms that UBot Studio 4 will bring botmaking to ridiculous levels of ease and quickness. The sorts of things that UBot Studio 4 will be able to do will make even complex bots into simple, easy to produce works, with a lot of the actual work already done for you.

I know a lot of people will want to know whether or not they’ll have to pay to update. What it says on our sales page is that you get a year of free updates and then you’ll be asked to pay $5/mo for updates and support. We’ve yet to enforce the $5 subscription, but we will probably need to start getting serious with that as the technology and labor behind UBot get more and more serious. If we do that, however, that is all we plan on asking for, as the program itself, while needing a fresh new install and everything, will just be considered an update.

Well, that’s all I can say for now. Stay tuned and we’ll fill you in more and more as we get closer to the release date.

New Video and Article on Regular Expression

There have been two pieces added to the UBot Studio resource library. There is a video tutorial on the Find Regular Expression constant in the Developer and Professional versions of UBot Studio.

We have added a new article in the knowledge base for those who want to use Regular Expression to enhance their scraping abilities.  It focuses specifically on the Choose by Attribute command and how to use it to find and grab items you need. All three versions have the ability to choose an attribute by Regular Expression.

You can find the written tutorial at the UBot Support Knowledge-base.

The tutorial is on the find regular expression constant, for those trying to organize information with Regular Expression. You can find the video tutorial on the UBot Studio Tutorials Page under the Tutorials For the Pro and Developer Versions.

UBot Studio (Professional and Developer Editions): The In IE(Internet Explorer) Window Command

Unlike the In Firefox Window command, this command does not need a plugin to communicate with UBot Studio. The command is used exactly the same way as the in Firefox Window command.

UBot will interact with IE through the In IE Window command.  This command allows you to transfer commands that would normally only work in the IE browser in UBot Studio to outside IE browser windows.

Here’s an example. Let’s navigate to bing.com, fill the search field, and search for the item.

First, go under your flow commands and find the In IE Window command.

Drag the command into the script.

Navigate to bing.com in the UBot browser window.

Afterwards, we need the IE window to navigate to bing.com in the IE window, so drag the Navigate command into the In IE window command.

Add a delay or a wait finish to make sure the page loads before we fill the field.

After the delay command, drag and drop the search field into the In IE Window command. When the parameter window pops up, type in what you want to search for.

Click ok to get back to the script.

Afterward, drag and drop the search button into the command.

Your script should look similar to this after everything is finished:

A new IE window should pop open, navigate to bing, type a keyword into the search field, and then click the search button.

This command will not close other open instances of IE on your desktop.

UBot Studio(Professional and Development Editions): The In Firefox Window Command

Before using Firefox, you will need an important plugin from the following url: http://ubotstudio.com/jssh-Firefox36-WINNT.xpi

Install the plugin before starting to work with the In Firefox Window command.

This plugin will allow UBot Studio to open communication between itself and firefox.

UBot will interact with Firefox through the In Firefox Window command. This command allows you to transfer commands that would normally only work in the IE browser in UBot Studio to outside Firefox browser windows.

Here’s an example. Let’s navigate to bing.com, fill the search field, and search for the item.

Afterward, drag and drop the search button into the command.

Your script should look similar to this after everything is finished:

A new Firefox window should pop open, navigate to bing, type a keyword into the search field, and then click the search button.

*Keep in mind that running this command will close any instance of Firefox that is running on your computer. Before you run the command, make sure you are not leaving anything important running in firefox.

UBot Studio: The Send Email Command

The send email command is for people who are sending emails directly from their server email address. This command works only if you have a server side email address you send emails from.

When you drag the command into the script, this is what you will see:

You have several fields to fill in order for the command to work. These fields are:

Enter Server: The server on which your email address resides. (comes in the form of “12.123.123.12″ or “like mail.mailguy.com”)

Enter Username: This refers to the username you use to gain access into the server for emailing purposes.

Enter Password: This refers to the password you use to gain access into your server for emailing purposes.

Enter To: The email address you are sending the email to.

Enter From: The email address you are sending the email from.

Enter subject: The subject of your email.

Enter message: The email message you are trying to send.

When you input all of the information, your script should look like this:

You can add a list of email addresses to a list and place a $next list item in the Send To Field for a mass emailer. Don’t forget a set list position command with the position set to zero. It would look like the following image:

Place the send email command in a loop command to send the message to all the emails on the list. Make the loop loop according to the total emails on the emails list.

SMTP’s are fine to use with this command.

That’s it for the send email command.

Happy Botting!
